This month Urban Food Project Distribution Specialist, and CO.STARTERS alumni, Brent Kendrick took the entrepreneurial leap, launching a weekly local food box delivery called Stone’s Throw Market. Stone’s Throw Market seeks to supply its members with the very best in farm fresh foods and commodities with Workplace and Residential CSA Programs. The ‘farm-to-front-door’ concept is built on the infrastructure of the REV Urban Food Project‘s local food hub. Unlike traditional Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscriptions, Kendrick sources goods from his hobby farm and more than 40 Alabama farmers. Locavores can tailor boxes to their tastes and receive deliveries of fresh, seasonal Alabama grown produce for each Thursday for $35-$45. According to Brent, CO.STARTERS – a Create Birmingham program REV partners on – gave him the skills to turn his hobby into a viable business; “I’d been doing this myself for years, but CO.STARTERS helped me find and utilize resources that would not have been available to me otherwise.
