Downtown Birmingham is just one area of the city that is feeling the love from the Revive Birmingham project, going on during the month of October. The Revive Birmingham project kicked off last week, and downtown is one of five local neighborhoods getting more foot traffic because of retail and art shops.
As previously reported, the pop-up shops project was headed up by REV Birmingham, which chose the winners after receiving more than 50 proposals for shops to take space in downtown Birmingham, Five Points South, East Lake, Ensley and Woodlawn.
On Oct. 4, the first week of Revive will end with the “Birmingham Street Party,” from 5 to 8 p.m. “We’re taking over 3rd Avenue North between 18th Street North and 20th Street North, and we want YOU to bring the street life,” says the event listing on the Revive website.
Following the street party, the historic Lyric theater’s new exterior and signage will be lit up for the first time since its renovations started.
The Revive website says, “All of Birmingham is invited to join us as we finally light up the Lyric. We will #fliptheswitch at 8 p.m., showcasing the lobby’s fabulous new exterior and signage. The Chad Fisher Group will provide live music from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Trim Tab Brewing Co. will be pouring samples of their new Lyric beer. Show up & see history!”
