The September 23 market is the third installment of the four-part 2017 series, and more than 70 local businesses are scheduled to participate. Here’s a peek at a few of the Sept. 23 market participants:
- Creative Mindz Dance Studio will host the five-year-running “Take It To The Streets” urban arts open-styles dance tournament at Woodlawn Street Market. Dancers from Alabama Dance Nation invite artists from across the country to come to the Magic City and battle for the crown – and dance lovers to enjoy the show!
- Naughty But Nice Kettle Corn Co.’s concept is simple and fresh. Naughty But Nice uses a small batch process, and all their flavors are hand-crafted to perfection. Their kettle corn is made for sharing but is too good to share.
- Dirty Red owner and chef Nelesha Dale has been with the Woodlawn Street Market since the inaugural Woodlawn Street Market in 2014. Since then, Chef Dale has launched the Dirty Red food truck. Chef Dale’s specialties include polish sausages and burgers with sautéed onions and peppers with signature Dirty Red sauce, quesadillas, and grilled corn with Dirty Red seasoning.
- Alloy Thai is the most exciting Thai food experience in Birmingham. Chef Josh Haynes uses the best local and seasonal products to craft authentic Thai flavors in unique dishes — growing many of the herbs and vegetables himself.
Woodlawn Street Market is, of course, a delight to visit; but it also serves as a safe platform for entrepreneurs to test and tweak business concepts – an important step before moving a business toward brick and mortar. For example, Chef Kimberly McNair Brock, participated in several Woodlawn Street Markets and Create Birmingham’s CO.STARTERS before opening her restaurant Bitty’s Living Kitchen in REV Birmingham’s REVeal Kitchen, a culinary business accelerator in The Pizitz Food Hall.
Woodlawn Street Market community partners include Communicating Vessels, Woodlawn United, Dream Center, Imperial Formal Wear and Woodlawn United Methodist Church. The fourth 2017 Woodlawn Street Market will be Dec. 2.
