REV BIRMINGHAM Launches New Initiative to Bring City Streets to Life

REVIVE: The Streets Life Project to Launch October 2013

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (July 29, 2013) REV Birmingham has announced a month-long, collaborative initiative to activate empty storefronts, generate foot traffic and organize street-level improvements to restore interest in five target commercial districts in Birmingham. The campaign is called “REVIVE: The Street Life Project,” and will demonstrate revitalization strategies like pop-up shops, streetscape improvement and placemaking efforts that showcase what Birmingham’s urban commercial districts can look like. REVIVE 2013 will focus on five urban villages: 3rd Ave. North from 19th to 20th Street, East Lake,  Ensley, Five Points South and Woodlawn.

“Each of our city’s neighborhoods has its own identity, along with a list of opportunities that are ripe for taking advantage of,” said REV Birmingham CEO David Fleming. “Through REVIVE we are identifying the needs, working with the Mayor’s office, private property owners and partners to address them, and change perceptions about these urban villages.”

At the end of the 2013 REVIVE campaign, local property owners will have more qualified leads for leasing or sales, existing business owners will see an increase in traffic, aspiring entrepreneurs will have opportunities to pilot their businesses and proud placemakers will have even more livable spaces to enjoy within their communities.

The REVIVE 2013 Schedule Includes:

Downtown, 3rd Ave. N. – September 30 – October 4

East Lake – October 7 – October 11

Ensley – October 14 – October 18

Five Points South – October 21 – October 25

Woodlawn – October 28 – November 1
