Hooper City Convenience

Hooper City

Just down the street from the Hooper City Recreation Center sits an old brick building with a fire engine red exterior that you can’t miss. It’s Hooper City Convenience Store. And just inside those doors sits a new produce display filled to the brim to greet customers. Kurt and Monique Kenebrew purchased the store in June 2014 with an inspiring dream for what it could be. After growing up in the neighborhood, Kurt saw this as a way to give back to his community. Fueled by a vision to create a “one-stop shop” for the neighborhood, the husband and wife team have dedicated an entire aisle to groceries.

Monique reminisces about the corner stores of the past where customers could purchase bulk commodity items like flour or sugar from large barrels. “We will begin catering to food and groceries more and cut back on cigarette and wine sales,” she explained. The couple also has plans to expand their produce offerings as much as possible. “It’s very popular,” Moniques shares. “People are excited and come buy produce the same day REV delivers.”

Through Hooper City Convenience, the Kenebrews are committed to providing fresh, healthy food to the community, but they also recognize the mutual support that comes from being rooted in the neighborhood.Monique&son_2

In addition to expanding their grocery offerings and updating the store interior, the Kenebrews also have plans to redevelop the adjoining space into a barber shop.Kudos to the Kenebrews for giving back to the Hooper City neighborhood. We ‘re excited to see what’s to come!
