On a crisp spring morning in March, the Bon Appetit chefs from Birmingham-Southern College, along with Taylor Clark and Leigh Hooten of REV Urban Food Project, took a trip to Neal Pope’s Farm in Salem, AL. This trip was designed to meet one of our enrolled Farm to Fork vendors and learn about sustainable farming, but transcended these expectations and became a conduit to reenergize us and remind us of why we do what we do.

The ministry has recently grown to fill even more community needs through a food voucher partnership with Woodlawn’s City Meats and Vegetables, a corner store in REV’s Urban Food Project network.

HTC Profile: A glimpse inside historic Protective Life Building to soon be transformed into hotel

Rhaglan Hospitality, led by Joe White and Jim Lewis, plans to return another iconic piece of Birmingham’s skyline to its former glory. The 90-year-old Protective Life building (also known as the Commerce Center) landed at number one on the 2018 Alabama historic tax credit urban district list and will soon be transformed by the local developer into a 96-room boutique hotel.

2018 Alabama Historic Tax Credit list proves strong demand for investment

Last week, The Alabama Historical Rehabilitation Tax Credit Evaluating Committee approved requests for funds to be allocated to three historic renovation projects in Birmingham. These projects, as well as those projects that were approved for the wait list for 2019 allocation, prove the demand for historic rehabilitation is strong in Birmingham and Alabama.

Council-approved: Complete Streets to create a safer Birmingham
