Brandon Cummings
VP of Economic Development
My work is driven by a deep-seated passion for commercial properties, by identifying the untapped potential in our city’s “bones” and turning underutilized spaces into vibrant centers of activity. Because economic development is fundamentally a relationship-driven business, I prioritize building and fostering the vital connections between entrepreneurs, property owners and community stakeholders that make revitalization possible. By working closely with local and state officials, I navigate the complexities of public policy and cultivate the public-private partnerships necessary to structure and leverage the economic tools that align our strategic goals, ensuring every project we touch drives sustainable, forward-thinking growth for the Magic City.

> What do you enjoy most about Birmingham?
What I enjoy most about Birmingham is its unparalleled food scene, which I’ll put up against any city in the Southeast and, frankly, beyond. It’s a landscape that perfectly captures the city’s range, offering everything from food trucks to white-napkin dining. I enjoy bragging to visitors that Birmingham is home to a staggering 60+ James Beard Award winners and nominees. My wife and I make it a point to do a date night out once or twice a month to experience a new spot, and we are consistently blown away by the caliber of talent here.
> What’s your favorite hobby?
I often joke that since the birth of our daughter I’ve developed a deep and very necessary appreciation for high-quality coffee. To navigate those late nights and early mornings, we now have a full coffee bar at home. My favorite hobby as of now has been exploring and visiting Birmingham’s local roasters to pick up fresh coffee beans; it’s a great way to support the small businesses that give our neighborhoods and business districts their character.
