Mason Music Foundation: Music for everyone

The Mason Music Foundation is a nonprofit helping “to empower, inspire, and enrich the lives of children in local communities through life changing musical experiences.” We sat down with Will Mason, CEO of Mason Music, to learn more about the inspiration behind the foundation, why they chose Woodlawn as one of their prime locations, and what we can expect to see from them in the near future! Plus, the foundation will be moving into the new Woodlawn Theatre soon, so keep an eye out for some musical performances coming your way!

Taking a look back at the (20th) Street Party!

Okay – you probably know by now that we recently wrapped up construction on 20th Street (and if you didn’t, surprise – now you know!). We held a street party to wrap it all up and it was a huge success, if we do say so ourselves. There’s nothing better than seeing hundreds of people come together to celebrate the revitalization of their beloved city. How about we continue the celebrations and take a look back at the (20th) Street Party that took place last week? And be sure to stop by and check out all the fun new additions to Birmingham’s main street next time you head down there!

The 20th Street Refresh is coming to an end - but there's still more to come!

This Friday, May 20th, we will be having a (20th) Street Party (which you can read more about here) to celebrate the end of our Birmingham Green Refresh! While this certainly calls for a celebration, the party doesn’t stop there. We will still be adding some finishing touches to the street after the (20th) Street Party. These additional touches will help make Birmingham’s main street more vibrant, interactive, and efficient! Additions will include smart trash cans, free libraries, street performers, and more!

Celebrating the Birmingham Green Refresh with a (20th) Street Party!

We are approaching the finish line for the 20th Street Refresh, which calls for a celebration – and you’re invited! The City Center Business Improvement District (BID), funded by downtown property owners, is partnering with the City of Birmingham and REV Birmingham to celebrate a refreshed Birmingham Green. Come join the party on May 20th from 4 to 8 p.m (with a special celebration happening at 6 p.m.)!

Linn Park is getting a re-vision!

If you’ve been paying close attention, you may have noticed that we’ve been hinting at a new Linn Park project coming soon – and we’re finally ready to share it with you! A planning process to redesign and reactivate Linn Park kicked off recently when public and private organizational partners met on site with the nationally acclaimed park designers OJB Landscape Architecture (OJB) to begin an eight-month master plan development process to improve Linn Park.

Birmingham's Permanent Outdoor Dining Permit: How did we get here?

In response to COVID-related restrictions, REV worked with the City of Birmingham in 2020 to create a temporary permit giving street-level businesses options for using nearby sidewalk and parking spaces to expand their operations. After seeing the success of the temporary permit, REV and the City of Birmingham Department of Transportation worked together to make a new, permanent process for shared outdoor dining and retail in 2021! Keep reading to see how we got here and what this new permit means for Birmingham.

Why does Magic City Match matter?

We just launched Magic City Match with our partners at Prosper Birmingham, IGNITE! Alabama and Urban Impact! This new grant program will distribute $500,000 to help grow Black-owned businesses in Birmingham.
